Do you ever feel like you’re talking to a brick wall?

I know I’ve felt this way sometimes

You know the feeling. You go in to your GP or health professional, talk about your main issue, and you don’t feel like they are listening. Even I’ve had this before, where a Specialist I saw called me a hypochondriac – let me just say I wasn’t impressed, especially when I saw another specialist who told me what was really behind my issue.

There are 4 things you need to ask every health professional you see, including your GP, even if you only have a limited amount of time with them.

1. What is wrong? What is my diagnosis?
2. Can you help me? Or do I need to be referred to someone who can
3. How long will it take me to get better? (Sometimes they may not know this but ) I mean days, weeks, months or years?
4. What can I do to help myself? Medication, exercises, lifestyle change, habit changes, see other health professionals etc

Feel free to write these things down and make sure you ask them next time you are at the GP. Even put them in a text message to yourself on your phone.

Until next time take care, Nick and Team at Scarborough Physio and Health
