What is a funny or interesting story about you?

I enjoy growing my own fruits and veggies and back in the UK, we have an allotment. Many of my Aussie patients have never heard of one, but an allotment is essentially a small plot of land which you can rent to grow your own produce or just have a slice of green space.

The concept has been around for a long time but became more poignant during the wars of the early 20th Century. You may have heard about the Dig for Victory campaign of WW2 where people were encouraged to grow their own as food was scarce and rationing was in full effect.

Since moving to QLD, my fingers are still green. My favourite thing is to grow and turn my chilli peppers into fermented hot sauces. I especially like naming my creations after how they make you feel when you try them for the first time!

Where was your last holiday

Over Easter, I took road a trip out to Carnarvon Gorge to hike through the sandstone cliffs, see the First Nations people’s cave paintings and camp under the clearest night skies I have ever seen. I also travelled north to Eungella National Park to catch up with a couple of platypuses before heading to Airlie Beach for some well-deserved R ‘n’ R.

What sets you apart as a therapist?

Two main things set me apart from the crowd – experience and simplicity.

I have worked in a multitude of different settings. In the public sector, I worked my way from being a junior Physio on the hospital wards through to Senior, Leadership and Advanced Practice roles. I have worked in sport from grassroots right up to high-grade levels in swimming, netball and soccer. As well as working in private practices for over a decade and working for myself.

Through this experience, I have learnt to keep things simple. I strive to produce uncomplicated treatment plans for my patients to follow. I’m a firm believer in prioritising the most important and meaningful factors to help recovery. Life’s too short to worry about the small things.
