Life is busy!

In between work, school, partners, finances, children and sometimes aging parents, there seems to be very little time left over for us. It’s like you have to keep running to get everything done until one day you end up exhausted, overwhelmed and unable to breathe.  For some, life begins to feel like hard work and joyless, while for others it feels like the constant frustration grows into feelings or expressions of anger and/or resentment.

Yet, finding a peaceful balance, just might feel like an impossible dream – or is it?

Here are my 5 suggestions that may help you to get off your never ending treadmill.

SUPPORT – Who can help?  Can you ask your partner, a family member or a paid helper for more support? It is amazing how helpful it is to have someone cook one meal a week or, if you can, have an ironing lady to do the school uniforms and work clothes?

DELEGATE – Do you have to do everything?   Grab a piece of paper and write down everything you can think of that you do.  Is there anything that you can delegate, not do or dump completely?   This could be anything from delegating a work task, that someone else is capable of doing or learning to say no when you’re asked to join yet another school or sports committee.  Then use that time to breathe.

SLEEP – Are you getting enough? Good sleep is nature’s way of allowing the body and brain to repair and heal.  Poor sleep can occur because our brain won’t stop spinning, we are in pain or we haven’t given ourselves enough time to sleep.  There is no denying that a lack of sleep contributes to feelings of stress, anxiety and irritability so it’s important we correct whatever it is that’s getting in the way of us sleeping long enough and getting a good nights sleep.

SELF TALK – are you comparing your life or self to others? Start noticing the situations and feelings that cause you to play the comparison game.  It can be while scrolling through social media or driving through the ritzy parts of Newport that you find yourself envying or comparing with others.  Remember the outside picture can never be truthfully compared to the inside realities of someone else’s life.  Learning gratitude practices can be a great comparison buster and make you feel good about what you have and what you are striving towards.

And lastly, BREATHE – just breathe. Simply being still and breathing, can provide us with beautiful moments of peace and feelings of calm.   Next time you feel overwhelmed or stressed, sit down, even if it’s on the toilet, and breathe in through your nose for two and then breathe it out through your mouth for a count of four. Try this two or three times a day and see if it helps you just to lighten your tension load.

I hope this brief guide to re-balancing your life has been of assistance to you.  If you would like to learn more tools and strategies to support you living well please come and have a chat because together we can work on redesigning your life to be you want it to be.
