I wanted to share this research article after stumbling across it online. The study by Asheghan et al. (2016) aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Acupuncture in the treatment of Frozen Shoulder.
Patients were given 10 sessions of Acupuncture over 5 weeks. Pain scores and Range of Motion (ROM) were noted prior to treatment, 1.5 months after that and 3 months later.
The study found after 1.5 months of starting the treatment and also after 3 months, active and inactive Range of Motion were significantly improved when compared to the baseline observation. The study by Asheghan et al. (2016) reads ‘In the general case, implementation of Acupuncture causes a tremendous improvement of shoulder movements, but the improvement was more significant about flexion (arm raise) and abduction (side raise) movements’. The study also showed that overall pain had reduced in those who had Acupuncture.
